Story of India is the story of every young person trying to hold on to their grounds. Having independently moved out of the colonial parents since 1947, India has seen a lot of change. The journey in the Rural economy is also captivating in itself. From going through harshest famines to starting from scratch. The agriculture has gone from self reliant to export pride.
So what is it that is Really bugging the Farmers when the Govt recently introduced the Farm Bills?
The answer lies in Logistics. The huge uproar by Farmers mainly from Punjab, Haryana and Western UP over the recently passed Farm Bills shows the Infrastructural change that the Rural Economy is witnessing right now.
The demands that vary from deregulation to MSP assertion shows that the Farmers are witnessing the structural change. But the main question is: Who is the beneficiary? The answer: Private players and Corporate Giants
The next question: Why are the Farmers not united across the nation? Since this policy affects everyone?
The answer to this is really complicated. The northern belt of India close to the capital is a Logistical sweetheart for the Private players. Thats why Private players are focusing on optimizing their supply chain in those areas including building warehouses and Cold Storage.
The Eastern India( Eastern UP, Bihar, Bengal) lack the Infrastructural support and is a Logistical nightmare..No private player is going to enter these areas without the State security and assurances. Financially speaking the cost of doing business will be very high for the Private players and this is something that the farmers know too well.Hence the lukewarm response.
The northern belt is a profit enterprise and the real battle is about market share .Just like the Chocolate and Coffee Industry of Africa where the ultimate growers get nothing whereas end sellers sleep in Castle…The same shit is happening here and I hope we dont come to the “I told u so!” Situation
What happens when the country comes together, contributes and donates to the Fund created by the Indian Prime Minister(PM Cares). The country is taken for granted.
In the recent development this week, the audit state for PM Cares Fund was made public. It seems that the Fund will not be audited by the Government Auditors and will lie at the hands of independent auditors appointed by the Trustees of PM Care Fund (All members of the same party!). Its exactly like writing your exam and examining it yourself! The Funds created for the public by the public needs transparency in terms of how it is being utilized. But the Govt has turned deaf to anyone asking for probe in this area. Centre is playing a Step Mother to the States by not passing on the tax benefits to those who donate in CM relief funds across various states. The question is if WHO and other International agencies can be audited by the CAG then what is so special about the PM Cares Fund that no Government auditor can touch it?
Can we just turn blind to every wrong that is happening in front of us? The Government has made the citizens donate in its PM Care Funds stating that it is the time that we look out for each other and help each other. But it will not withdraw from the Parliament 2.0 Project(That’s what i call it!) which costs the taxpayers approximately 22,000 Crores (INR). With the pandemic creating more dangerous situation for the economy everyday, there is a serious need for the Government to focus on Covid-19 and take care of its citizens by scrapping the beautification project. “Do what you preach” is something Mr Modi’s Government will never know in its Lifetime.
As the country readies itself for its reopening, the response of the Government towards saving the SMEs and unorganized sector seems lukewarm. The lack of transparency in spending of Funds and playing the Godfather role for its minion states is certainly not helping the Indian Government at this point.
A concrete plan regarding the reopening and a coordinated response from the Government is the least the citizens can expect. About 3800 Crores is the balance for PMNRF and about 7000 Crores was collected under PM Cares during the first week of April. Add this amount to 22,000 worth Beauty project, we are talking about more than 30000 Crores (INR) which can be definitely help during this pandemic. But the main underlying question still remains: What about the Funds, Mr Modi?
It is still “Smiling Faces” pasted over the television screens across the American Network. More than 54,000 people have perished to Covid-19 and the Republicans are still busy painting a rosy picture to the country. Like they have it all under control!
The disregard for even common sense was at recent display during Trump’s disinfectant Press Conference. Adding the sarcasm explaination to it later was just the cherry the Americans needed on their cake. While it may be a goofball incident that many take light heartedly but think of the serious repercussions it has on the hard core Republican voters.(It’s scary that a few had ingested the Disinfectant to my disbelief!). It gets more scarier when this kind of misinformation and misrepresentation is being carried out from the White House itself. And this level of propoganda based leadership is a concern when America has to vote this year.
As the pressure from the lobby groups grows, the Government’s response to the opening of economy is confusing. The Trump verus Governors episode on the lockdown clearly shows the lack of state-centre coordination. Trump is playing with the lives of American people and its strange that Americans are still calling out to open the economy when the pandemic has spread like wildfire across the country.(Have they checked the number of cases in the country!). The Corporate will always eat America even at the cost of death of thousands of people. There is a need for a concrete plan when the economy starts opening to contain and supervise over the Corona numbers in the State. Instead the Republicans are busy in planning anti-immigration laws.(P.S: US has most number of active Covid-19 cases in the world!)
Trump’s response to Covid-19 is that he closed the gates early. But he himself was on an Indian Tour in February, so isn’t it a bit hypocrite??
While the Congress has approved close to 3 trillion dollars in its relief package to the country. The question is till how long will u float on debt waters? Clearly the debts have crossed all levels in America right now and with the rush to push forward the Package that entitles cash payment upto 1200 dollars for a single receiver linked to its social security as a tax rebate, the Goverment has spent all its energy at the first stage itself. There is a clear divide amongst Republicans over the usage and timing of the stimulus package. When the corporates and institutions start reporting losses due to the Global lockdown in the next few months, Trump won’t be there to handle it. The elections will take over America and the next Govt has to deal with the turmoil created by our own Frankenstein!
